Unveiling Solutions in Dubai's Premier Cybersecurity Showcase

UAE Cyber Security Council Emphasises Privacy Concerns and Regulatory Compliance in ChatGPT Usage, Highlights National AI Strategy 2031 Governance Objectives.

The Intersec 2024 Cyber Security Conference, hosted by the UAE Cyber Security Council at the Dubai World Trade Centre, delved into the intricate security risks and governance challenges posed by the widespread adoption of Generative AI, such as ChatGPT, by organisations operating in the UAE and the Middle East.

According to insights shared by Gartner, the primary risks associated with ChatGPT are centred around privacy and confidentiality, as well as the potential for cyber fraud. Gartner highlighted the concern that any information entered into ChatGPT, if chat history is not disabled, could become part of its training dataset.

The conference placed a spotlight on the existing governance and regulatory landscape within the UAE and the Middle East, with a specific focus on the UAE's National Strategy for AI 2031. Emphasis was given to the governance objectives outlined in the strategy, particularly those aimed at enhancing cybersecurity in AI deployment. The session thoroughly addressed specific policies and initiatives relevant to the region.

During the conference, Faheem Siddiqui, Group Director - Information Security at Majid Al Futtaim, emphasised the need for organisations to comprehend the security risks associated with adopting Generative AI. Siddiqui stressed the importance of proactively establishing robust compliance frameworks, considering the convergence of technical innovation, ethical considerations, and regulatory alignment in cultivating an accountable and transparent AI landscape in the Middle East.
