Qatar’s construction industry to see influx

Qatar’s construction industry is projected to drive in more than USD 22 billion in new contract awards by 2012 and showing an increase from the USD 20.21 billion worth of contracts awarded in 2010, according to Research and Markets, the leading source for international market research and market data. The predicted surge in new construction project contracts reflect Qatar’s emergence as a premier business and investment destination for the Middle East region.

In line with this, ProMedia, a subsidiary of Omnix International, is looking to capitalize on this expected growth and create a stronger market presence in Qatar’s construction design market by showcasing its latest line of world class, state-of-the-art Building Information Modeling (BIM) design solutions at this year’s edition of Project Qatar, the leading construction show for Qatar and the GCC, which will run from 2nd May – 5th May, 2011, at the Doha Exhibition Centre, Qatar.

According to a recent country report from leading business intelligence research media group MEED, Qatar has dedicated over 40% of its budget towards infrastructure expansion projects with expenditures also going to the private sector for the creation of more job opportunities. The move translates to over USD 66 billion worth of infrastructure projects that are either in the planning stage or is already under way in Qatar at present. The advent of key infrastructure projects complements the Qatar National Vision 2030 program, which aims at strengthening its sustainable design initiatives in the construction sector.

ProMedia has revealed the implementation of a series of strategic initiatives aimed at increasing awareness of Autodesk solutions that uses BIM technology amidst the country’s booming construction industry. The company will be promoting the immense benefits and advantages gained from using the new Autodesk Revit software solutions to government agencies, architects, consultants, and private developers at the Project Qatar 2011 meet. The Revit suite of BIM solutions are comprised of Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and Revit MEP, which allows the creation of 3D building models and helps in producing better sustainable and environmental friendly building designs.

“ProMedia’s participation in the eighth edition of Project Qatar marks the company’s strategic move towards creating a stronger market presence in Qatar’s rapidly developing construction sector,” said Dr. Jayant Deshpande, Director, ProMedia. “We strongly support the government’s initiatives to enforce the implementation of sustainable design solutions for current and future developments. Banking on our 20 years of experience in providing key design and information solutions, we will be showcasing the latest in BIM software packages to help create a more integrated approach in the country’s current line of construction projects.”

Development in Qatar is also attributed to the country’s massive oil and gas reserves, which has acted as a catalyst in attracting key opportunities among its most important industries. Hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022 will allow Qatar to develop partnerships and opportunities with global investors and companies involved with construction, property and infrastructure development. Preparations for the highly anticipated international sporting event will cover all sectors of the country’s economy and is expected to involve around USD100 billion worth of projects over the next four years.

With the region’s current economic conditions where companies are trying to effectively strike a balance between retaining manpower and meeting set deadlines, Autodesk solutions is poised to be the perfect and most ideal tool for construction design. Revit solutions keeps information coordinated, up-to-date and accessible in an integrated digital environment – giving project teams a clear overall vision of their designs; the capacity to test and visualize in a digital environment, improve efficiencies, and reduce errors by streamlining the decision-making process.

“ProMedia is strategically positioning itself to be a significant part of the country’s rapid development; remaining steadfast in our commitment to provide state-of-the-art design solutions and innovative technologies that can meet the growing demands and requirements of our Qatari customers, amidst the background of a booming demand for built space and increasing clamor for more ‘green technologies’ implementation.

The presence of an aggressive and highly dedicated team combined with our world class suite of BIM solutions will allow us to offer more value added services like training, insight and 24/7 support, thereby allowing us create a stronger market presence in Qatar,” concluded Deepak Mehta, Manager – Autodesk Services, ProMedia.
