Google Maps shows speed limits and camera locations

Launched across major countries in the world, including many in MENA

Google Maps now warns you when approaching a speed camera, while also showing them as icons on the map. The feature also shows speed limits, and is available in more than 40 countries, including U.S., U.K., India, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia.

All the data is crowdsourced, which signals it won't be long before all the speed limits and cameras are available on the app. This feature has been developed as part of Waze, a social mobile navigation company acquired by Google in 2013.

It will become a popular feature for drivers to avoid speed traps. However, it also means they might encourage speeding between cameras. It is reasonable to understand why it is not available in the UAE; given the road accidents, this feature could make driving riskier.
