AI + Government: The Future of Business Services?

UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism pushes digital transformation, AI integration, and SME empowerment at the second Zero Bureaucracy Forum, unveiling initiatives like “Excellence in Leadership” and digital service training.

In an effort to make life simpler for business owners and individuals, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism recently hosted the second Zero Bureaucracy Forum in Dubai. The forum highlighted the ministry's ongoing push to improve government services through digital transformation and the use of technologies like AI.

This initiative is part of the broader Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, which aims to streamline procedures and cut down on red tape. The event brought together a wide range of officials from various federal and local government entities, all focused on the common goal of making processes simpler, faster, and more efficient.

Simplifying the Business Landscape

H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, spoke about the program's vision. He emphasised that the goal is to create a more competitive national model for government services. By doing this, the government hopes to support the growth of various economic sectors and create a more dynamic business environment.

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism has already made significant progress on this front. According to H.E. Al Marri, the ministry was one of the first government entities to go fully digital, especially in response to the pandemic in 2020. This shift has allowed all of their services to be accessible online through their website and smart application, which has helped reduce complexities for businesses and boost economic activity.

Focusing on Zero Digital Bureaucracy

H.E. Eng. Mohamed bin Taliah, Chief of Government Services in the UAE Government, noted that the second phase of the program is focused on achieving zero digital bureaucracy. This involves improving communication and integration between government entities to speed up information exchange and service delivery.

He explained that by placing people at the centre of these initiatives, the government is working to build a more adaptable society and ensure a sustainable quality of life. The forum itself served as a platform to discuss innovative solutions and design services that meet the evolving needs of customers, ultimately creating a more seamless experience.

New Initiatives to Support Businesses

The forum also featured a discussion on new digital services being developed by the Ministry to improve the user experience. A new initiative, “Excellence in Leadership,” was also launched. This program is designed to empower individuals and particularly focuses on SMEs, giving them the tools and support needed to be more productive and creative. The initiative aligns with the government's goal of building a more prosperous society by empowering people across all sectors.

In a related development, a new group of participants graduated from the Digital Service Design Course. This course, based on the UAE Government’s services development methodology, trains professionals to design effective digital services that save customers time and effort. The aim is to build a skilled national workforce capable of supporting the zero-bureaucracy initiatives.
