Is entrepreneurship for you?

We look at the opportunities and challenges of running an SME in the MENA region.

Many of us have heard of the successful entrepreneurial stories in the region. Take Souq.com, for example, which was acquired by Amazon in 2017, or Careem, which became the first Middle Eastern start-up to become a “unicorn” (a private company with a valuation of more than $1 billion). However, those start-ups are outliers, because there are many more start-ups that did not make it.

So, what is the state of the start-up ecosystem in the Arab region, and how do the stakeholders look at it? That is exactly what Zawya’s Yasmine Saleh discusses, as she has interviewed a series of stakeholders in the ecosystem to gauge the opportunities and challenges of start-ups in the Arab world. Learn more about it, including success stories from the region here.
