Building Competence for Success: AspenTech’s New Training Empowers Fresh Engineering Talent

Partnering with experts like Becht, the comprehensive program is strategically crafted to nurture specialised competencies within various roles, including process engineers, control engineers, reliability engineers, supply chain planners, and cost estimators.

Aspen Technology has unveiled a pioneering industry domain training initiative tailored for businesses operating in asset-intensive sectors. Aimed at facilitating the seamless integration of recently-graduated engineers, the comprehensive program is strategically crafted to nurture specialised competencies within various roles, including process engineers, control engineers, reliability engineers, supply chain planners, and cost estimators.

In response to the shifting landscape of industrial expertise as experienced professionals retire and a new wave of talent enters the workforce, AspenTech’s initiative comes as a timely solution. A recent survey titled Gaps in the Energy Workforce, conducted by the Centre for Energy Workforce Development, highlighted a noteworthy surge in the proportion of younger professionals [under 32 years old] in the energy sector, encompassing 43 percent of technicians and 25 percent of engineers.

David Reumuth, Senior Director of Customer Support and Training at AspenTech, emphasised the urgency for companies to cultivate and retain organisational competency amidst these transformative workforce dynamics. "To stay abreast of the evolving workforce and the ensuing market demands, it is imperative for enterprises to nurture and uphold their organisational proficiency," stated Reumuth. He added that the new program builds upon AspenTech's previously introduced sustainability-specific training, providing a broader curriculum designed to accelerate the development of industry-specific skills essential for success in the process industries. By doing so, the initiative empowers companies to attain operational excellence and empowers the emerging workforce to effectively tackle operational challenges.

The curriculum's development was conducted in collaboration with domain experts, including Becht, a venerable engineering services company with six decades of service to the energy, chemicals, power, and alternative energy sectors. By partnering with Becht, AspenTech has crafted an integrated curriculum spanning process, refining, and chemicals domains, offering learners a holistic and immersive real-world learning experience.

Having already garnered participation from over 1000 users hailing from 150+ companies worldwide, the initial curriculum is presented in both virtual and live classroom formats. Led by industry domain experts boasting decades of hands-on experience, these courses provide participants with role-specific insights and the invaluable opportunity to engage with experts to address their unique process-related challenges.

AspenTech's groundbreaking training has received resounding acclaim from the workforce it serves. An impressive 99 percent of attendees from the new generation of professionals express the belief that such specialised training should be a prerequisite for entering the process industries. Additionally, an overwhelming 96 percent of respondents attest to feeling better equipped to excel in their roles thanks to the training provided by AspenTech.

As industries adapt to evolving demands and a fresh influx of talent reshapes the workforce, AspenTech's industry domain training program helps bridge the gap between experience and the demands of the future.
