60 Million kilometres for Hope

In July 2020, the United Arab Emirates is set to launch their first unmanned spacecraft into orbit, aptly called Hope. Hope’s mission is to search for connections between today’s Martian weather and the Red Planet’s ancient climate. Aimed to be Mars’ first true weather satellite, the Mission collaborates with the global Mars Mission community to try and understand why the planet is losing its atmosphere to space.

What we find is the most inspirational part of this program, is the augmented interest and vision the Mission is placing firmly in the hands of the youth. “The youth are the future of our space programme and bringing them to this platform gives them and opportunity to engage and exchange ideas with leaders in the space sector,” said Dr Mohammad Nasser Al Ahbabi, the director general of the UAE Space Agency at the inaugural Global Space Congress in AbuDhabi in January this year.
