DED to honour winners of quality and excellence on April 5

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) will honour the winners of the 2010 cycle of the Dubai Quality Award (DQA), Dubai Human Development Award (DHDA) and the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme (DSES), at the 16th Business Excellence Awards ceremony to be held on April 5, 2011, at Grand Hyatt, Dubai.

The initiative is part of DED’s efforts to establish the concept of quality and excellence as a catalyst for stronger business growth and further consolidate Dubai’s status as a preferred destination for foreign investment.

“The Business Excellence Awards are one of the most prestigious citations as they uphold the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in creating a modern business environment for Dubai that is driven by international quality standards,” said His Excellency Mr Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of DED.

“DED continuously seeks to contribute to the development of the economic performance in the emirate through the support of the business sector institutions and companies, as well as developing the concept of partnership with the private sector, which plays an important role in the economic development in Dubai,” added Al Qamzi.

Mr Mohammed Bushanain, Executive Director Corporate Quality and Management Excellence, DED, said: “Dubai has consistently focused on promoting quality and excellence to drive the productivity of the various business operations, including that of the government sector. The preparatory process for participation in the Business Excellence Awards takes many months of continuous work on multiple stages, and we encourage all companies or individuals wishing to participate in the awards next year to register early to take advantage of the benefits that DED provides, such as training and advice in the field of excellence.”

Since its launch in 1994, the DQA has enjoyed the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who has been instrumental in driving the quality movement across the private and public sectors in the emirate. The DQA is the single most valuable framework for companies to implement a quality strategy to improve their effectiveness by involving all employees to meet objectives and achieve customer satisfaction at optimal costs.

The Dubai Quality Award winners are honoured in three categories – the Gold Category, the Dubai Quality Award, and the Dubai Quality Appreciation Programme (DQAP). The awards will be distributed in key sectors – manufacturing, finance, professional, tourism, services, trade, construction, higher education, and healthcare.

The Dubai Human Development Award recognises the long-term commitment of the private sector to the development of UAE nationals. It offers them the chance to develop and build career paths. DHDA is given in three categories – The Gold Category, the Dubai Human Development Award, and the Dubai Human Development Appreciation Programme (DHDAP). The award covers economic sectors – trade, manufacturing, construction, professional, services, tourism, higher education, financial services and government.

The Dubai Service Excellence Scheme is a one-of-a-kind initiative that aims to gain customers’ confidence and to make the experience of shopping in Dubai a pleasurable one. The scheme encourages, recognizes and rewards businesses that keep Dubai at the cutting edge of best business practice. DSES is based on a set of clear standards or ethics for businesses in Dubai to be implemented across relevant sections of each organisation.

The Dubai Service Excellence Scheme serves as a model for businesses to excel in their commitment towards customers. DED will honour the winners of Dubai Service Excellence Scheme award in two categories – best service performing outlets and brands.

More than 1000 officials from the government and private sectors are expected to attend the award ceremony.
