UAE's Biofuel Collaboration Paves the Way to Greener Energy

Collaboration Aims to Boost Clean Energy Goals and Sustainable Solutions, Emphasising UAE's Commitment to Net-Zero 2050 Initiative.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE and Lootah Biofuels, a circular economy advocate specialising in biofuel production from cooking oil, have formalised a partnership through the signing of a MoU. This agreement aims to support bilateral relations and boost collaboration towards the development, promotion, and utilisation of biofuels as a sustainable and alternative energy source for the nation.

The MoU signing took place at the premises of Lootah Biofuels' factory located in Dubai Industrial City, and was attended by distinguished representatives including H.E. Sharif Salim Al-Olama, the Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MOEI, and Mr. Yousif bin Saeed Lootah, the founder and CEO of Lootah Biofuels.

Areas of focus outlined in the MoU encompass joint research and development initiatives aimed at exploring and expanding the biofuels market within the UAE. The partnership also seeks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise through various channels such as workshops, seminars, and knowledge-sharing sessions, targeted at industry stakeholders. Furthermore, both entities will actively engage in the mutual exchange of data pertaining to biofuel production and commercial distribution, which will play an important role in shaping policy decisions and tracking progress towards national clean energy objectives.

A central aspect of this collaboration involves raising awareness and promoting the adoption of biofuels across the UAE, with the overarching goal of enhancing the country's energy security and advancing its environmental sustainability agenda.

The genesis of this partnership can be traced back to a productive meeting held in November 2023, during which a high-level delegation from MOEI, led by H.E. Eng. Saif Ghobash, Assistant Undersecretary for the Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Sector, visited Lootah Biofuels. This visit provided MOEI with firsthand exposure to Lootah Biofuels' innovative and sustainable solutions for biofuel production, laying the groundwork for further cooperation.

Commenting on the importance of the MoU, H.E. Sharif Salim Al-Olama stated the commendable efforts of Lootah Biofuels in promoting the use of biofuels and raising public awareness. He expressed MOEI's enthusiasm for collaborating with Lootah Biofuels to advocate for sustainable solutions while advancing the nation's climate commitments.

In alignment with MOEI's sentiments, Mr. Yousif bin Saeed Lootah reiterated Lootah Biofuels' dedication to supporting the UAE's clean energy strategies and contributing to the development of greener and circular energy resources. He underscored the honour of partnering with MOEI to lead the biofuels industry forward and play a role in realising the UAE's Net-Zero 2050 ambition.

In addition to joint research and market development efforts, both parties are committed to actively promoting the use of biofuels across the UAE. This collaborative endeavour underscores the UAE's steadfast commitment to achieving its clean energy goals and the Net-Zero 2050 Initiative. By using Lootah Biofuels' expertise in biofuel production and MOEI's leadership in energy policy, this partnership is confident to catalyse advancements in the biofuels sector, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient energy landscape in the UAE.
