Smart Dubai launches ‘Data First’ challenge

The City’s Data Challenge

Smart Dubai has launched a six-month “Data First, The City’s Data Challenge” following the launch event on 14 July 2019. It’s aim is to bring Smart Dubai’s government and semi-government data partners together. The challenge will highlight the importance of collaborative efforts in data management, collection and insight generation.

The objective of the challenge is to increase the city’s data availability, support and improve compliance, as well as develop a strong data community to support Smart Dubai in improving the ecosystem.

The Challenge will recognise the top three entities who have shown the most progress between July 2019 and January 2020 in five areas:

  1. Compliance with the Dubai Data Law (from July 2019 – Jan 2020);

  2. Attendance of Smart Dubai data events to increase engagement;

  3. Collaboration on data requests from other government and semi-government entities;

  4. Increase data availability on Dubai Pulse by participating in ingestion cycles;

  5. Support for a data-driven culture through internal and external workshops and awareness programmes.

“Data has always been an important element in the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, who has always believed that to successfully utilise emerging technologies and capitalise on investment opportunities in that sector, we need to first identify and supple the right datasets.”
Her Excellency Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of Smart Dubai
