How Almajdouie and Canon Are Offsetting 48 Tons of CO2 in 2025

The partnership includes wind energy in Mauritania and reforestation in Germany, emphasising sustainability and environmental responsibility.

At the Gulf Print and Pack 2025 KSA, Almajdouie Holding announced a significant partnership with Canon Saudi Arabia to launch a Climate Contribution Project aimed at compensating for emissions generated by Almajdouie’s Canon-related print operations. This initiative is expected to offset 48 tons of CO2 emissions in 2025 alone, as both companies strengthen their commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

Reducing Emissions with Real-World Solutions

So, what exactly does this project involve? The partnership will focus on compensating emissions through certified climate initiatives. A wind energy project in Mauritania is one of the key efforts, where 15 turbines with a 30MW capacity will generate renewable power for the local grid, reducing the region's dependence on fossil fuels. This initiative alone is expected to make a significant environmental impact, with clean, renewable energy powering local communities.

But the program doesn’t stop there. Almajdouie and Canon are also investing in a reforestation project in Germany, which focuses on converting monoculture forests into biodiverse mixed woodlands. For every ton of CO2 offset through the program, one tree will be planted. This two-pronged approach demonstrates both companies' dedication to reducing their environmental footprint while actively contributing to the restoration of natural ecosystems.

Commitment to Sustainability

Abdullah Saeed Al-Ghamdi, Chief Human Resources & Admin Officer at Almajdouie Holding, expressed the company’s pride in taking part in such an impactful project, saying, “At Almajdouie Holding, we take our responsibility towards sustainable operations and business practices seriously. We are proud to be part of this program, which will see significant investment made into efforts to reduce the impact on the environment.”

Shadi Bakhour, B2B Business Unit Director at Canon Middle East, echoed these sentiments, highlighting Canon’s dedication to the cause. "We are pleased that Almajdouie Holding has joined our growing Climate Contribution Project. This agreement further reflects Canon's ongoing commitment to sustainable business practices in the region, embodying our philosophy of Kyosei, which is living and working together for the common good."

Certification and Credibility

One thing that really stands out about this partnership is the level of credibility involved. The initiative is certified by Gold Standard, an internationally recognized verification body, and all environmental projects are independently authenticated by Climate Partner. These certifications ensure that the program adheres to the highest standards, giving it an extra layer of trust and reliability.

In fact, the program aligns with ISO16759:2013 standards, which means Canon’s climate compensation efforts follow best practices for carbon footprint quantification. This attention to detail ensures that every aspect of the initiative is transparent, measurable, and impactful.

A Global Impact

Canon’s climate compensation portfolio is vast, spanning multiple continents and various types of projects. From wind energy developments in India and Indonesia to cookstove programs in Uganda that combat deforestation, the company is making a global impact. The reforestation project in Germany is part of a broader effort that includes similar initiatives in South America, England, and Switzerland.

This collaboration between Almajdouie Holding and Canon is just one example of how companies can work together to tackle climate change. It's a partnership that addresses immediate ecological concerns while also laying the groundwork for more sustainable business practices in the future.

Optimising for Efficiency

Canon’s Climate Contribution Project doesn’t just focus on compensation—it also looks at ways to reduce emissions at the source. One of the ways this is achieved is through comprehensive audits of print and scan operations. By optimising printer fleets and implementing more efficient devices, businesses can significantly reduce their energy consumption and emissions.

Canon has developed a robust system for tracking emissions, giving each product a unique ID number for transparency. Detailed labels and certificates provide clear visibility into energy usage across entire printer fleets. This level of transparency not only helps organisations track their progress but also allows them to make informed decisions to further reduce their environmental impact.

Supporting Responsible Procurement

The initiative also aligns with the growing emphasis on responsible procurement practices, which is becoming a key focus for companies and governments alike. By working with organisations of all sizes, including large enterprises, academic institutions, and SMEs, Canon is helping to promote ESG-compliant sourcing and foster more environmentally conscious operations.

One of the tools Canon provides to businesses is uniFLOW, a solution designed to limit unnecessary print expenditures and reduce wasteful printing. This tool is especially useful in today’s hybrid work environment, where businesses are looking to track both in-office and remote device usage to manage costs and reduce their carbon footprint.

Conclusion: A Sustainable Future

This collaboration between Almajdouie Holding and Canon Saudi Arabia serves as a powerful example of how businesses can come together to make a meaningful impact on the environment. By combining emission reduction efforts with compensation initiatives, the program addresses the urgent need to tackle climate change while setting a standard for sustainable business practices.

As more companies follow in their footsteps, the hope is that initiatives like these will not only reduce the immediate environmental impact but also inspire a new wave of responsible, eco-conscious business practices that benefit future generations.
