Dubai Municipality Launches City Future Lab to Shape the Future
The Dubai Municipality has officially launched its ambitious Future Foresight Plan, outlining a comprehensive roadmap for envisioning, designing, and constructing the emirate's future through municipal initiatives. The plan is set to position Dubai as a global leader in innovation, societal well-being, and urban development, with a focus on creating an unparalleled quality of life.
The Future Foresight Plan, comprising 120 projects, revolves around three central themes:
1. Revitalising Urban Spaces for Enhanced Liveability: The municipality aims to develop a smart green city, addressing climate change and emphasising sustainable urban development, including the expansion of green spaces.
2. Advancing Sustainable Infrastructure: This theme involves the digitisation of sewage and waste management, the future of building technologies, and innovative approaches to water and waste journeys.
3. Promoting Health and Wellness: Dubai's plan encompasses initiatives to improve air quality, noise control, environmental monitoring, food security, and overall health and safety.
To kickstart the implementation, the Dubai Municipality signed crucial memoranda of understanding during the Future Foresight Forum. Partnerships include collaborations with the Museum of the Future, Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and various private sector organisations.
In a bid to encourage innovation and experimentation with future solutions, the Dubai Municipality also announced the launch of the City Future Lab initiative. This program invites companies to align their projects with the Future Foresight Plan and contribute to building a futuristic urban environment.
His Excellency Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, expressed the significance of the Future Foresight Plan, stating, "This vision is in line with Dubai Municipality’s values of proactivity, positivity, competitiveness, and collaboration."
The plan, designed with the support of the integrated future foresight system provided by the Dubai Future Foundation, will leverage four strategic foresight enablers: strategic partnerships, talents and skills, advanced technology, and finance and operations.
His Excellency Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, emphasised Dubai's commitment to foresight and innovation, stating, "Our approach is not just about adapting to change but leading it, setting new benchmarks in how cities can innovate and evolve to meet the demands of the future."
As Dubai propels itself into the future, the Future Foresight Plan is set to be a cornerstone in the city's evolution, embracing sustainability, innovation, and community well-being.
