Careem’s pitch deck that won them early stage investment

This is where it all started from.

Careem started their journey seven years ago in 2013. When pitching to angel investors, their deck started with a “Disclaimer – this is a HIGH RISK investment!” Fast forward to 2019, its investors received a 100x return in the region’s biggest exit.

Careem is an exceptional case. It started when startups weren’t paid as much attention, nor was the industry romanticised as much as it is today. But their belief, conviction, local market insights grew them to become the region’s first unicorn, which was acquired by Uber for $3.1 billion.

Now, the pitch deck they used might not have the same effect today as it did in 2013, given that investors’ appetites and expectations have changed, and the competition to receive funding has enormously increased; although there are more willing investors in the region with larger funds to inject. Nonetheless, it will give you some insights into their approach, that won them $1.7 million in a tough to convince investor market. Here it is:
