Are you a UAE-based female founder? Get sponsored for GITEX by SBWC

Application for sponsorship are now open.

The UAE is seeing a huge push towards supporting women entrepreneurs. The latest in line is an initiative by Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC), who will sponsor 10 women founders based in the UAE to be at its showcase pods at GITEX Future Stars (GFS), one of the fastest-growing technology and business events for startups in the MENA region.

SBWC, a NAMA Women Advancement Establishment (NAMA) affiliate, has opened applications for women entrepreneurs to apply for a spot at GFS, which will take place from 6 to 9 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The application deadline is 9 August, 2019.

This is the fourth consecutive year in which SBWC will give its sponsored pods to female startup founders in the UAE. To qualify for the sponsored space at GFS, women entrepreneurs need to meet a few simple criteria:

  1. Their business should be based in the UAE

  2. They must have an element of technology, innovation and functionality as part of their core product.

  3. The business model should support a social, cultural or environmental cause.

Once the application closes on 9 August, shortlisted entrepreneurs will be invited to compete for the GITEX Supernova Challenge, for a grand total cash prize of $200,000. Of this, $100K will be split into 10 categories, with winners in each price category being awarded with $10,000 each.

“This year, SBWC is collaborating with GFS as its ‘Women in Tech Partner’ and are the official sponsors of the Women in Tech category. We actively work towards increasing the entry level of female-led businesses and start-ups in non-traditional fields like technology. We do so by presenting them with the best possible opportunities, and sponsoring deserving projects at GFS 2019 is a part of our thrust in that direction.”
Sheikha Hind Majid Al Qassimi, Chairperson of SBWC

Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC) has been driving integration of businesswomen within the Sharjah and UAE economy since its inception in 2002.

As part of SBWC’s continuous efforts to highlight women entrepreneurs, this GITEX sponsorship will help startup founders present their businesses to potential investors, buyers, and collaborators. They will also be able to engage with talented peers at the event. Moreover, knowing that the entrepreneurs were selected amongst many in the country will get them added attention and interest from the community.

So if you've got a solid business model and a smart tech product with a social aspect connected to the society, culture or the environment, apply for the sponsored pods and showcase your vision and business to the world.
