Apple launches design accelerator in China

Strengthens future sustainability of its business.

In a first for China, Apple has opened its design and development accelerator in Shanghai, with the aim to help local developers create better apps. This move is in line with its vision to grow its service business, which has been bringing in a larger chunk of its revenues over the last couple of years.

Developers here in China are leading the world with some of the most popular apps on the App Store, and we are proud to be providing this additional support for them. From education to health to entertainment, the innovation we see here is incredible and we can’t wait to see what these talented developers will come up with next.

The accelerator has already begun holding lectures, seminars and networking sessions.

Apple launched a similar accelerator in Bangalore two years ago, as India has approximately 500,000 app developers. The move proved useful according to developers who spoke to TechCrunch.

With more than 2.5 million developers in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, it d be argued that Bangalore was a testbed for the accelerator.

As the sales of iPhones have slowed down, while Apple’s service business is generating an increasingly larger chunk of its revenue. Following the pattern of Amazon and many other successful businesses, Apple is getting right at the bottom of the chain to strengthen and sustain its future business.
