Ekar now riding in Sharjah

Ekar, a pay-per-minute carsharing platform deployed 200 cars to initiate its Sharjah service on 23 December. The service – previously limited to Dubai – provides motorists with reasonable and convenient solutions for driving across the UAE.

The carsharing platform’s decision to expand operations to Sharjah allows it to cover a wide customer base, making it easy for Sharjah-based residents to avail of the service. “More than 15,000 of our existing 100,000 active users are living in Sharjah, enjoying ekar while in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. By expanding ekar services to Sharjah we will be able to serve these users in their own neighborhoods,” Vilhelm Hedberg, CEO, ekar Middle East said.

Furthermore, he said, “Today, ekar facilitates 50,000 bookings per month, a number which we are well on our way to quadruple over 2020, as we continue to expand our services across the UAE and Saudi Arabia,” said Hedberg.

In November, Ekar made its entry into Saudi Arabia – in Riyadh – and plans to enter Dammam, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, and King Abdullah Economic City as well.

Additionally, ekar is also launching an intercity (Sharjah-Abu Dhabi) package priced at AED175. The offer covers parking, fuel, mileage and insurance to pick up and drop off a car in between the emirates.

Fuelled and charged, ekar estimates to add around 10,000 cars to its fleet over the next three years. As per its prediction, it will spread operations across the GCC, Turkey, and Egypt over the period.
